Race Information

Introduction

The 13th Annual Silver Strand Half Marathon & 5K is Sunday, November 11, 2012. Run along the Strand from Coronado to Imperial Beach! Coronado is located across the bridge from downtown San Diego. Imperial Beach is located 20 miles south of downtown San Diego.

The 5K Run/Walk starts and finishes at the Imperial Beach Pier Plaza at 7:00am. Run the 5K and then enjoy the post race festivities while watching the half marathoners cross the finish line.

The half marathon course is open to runners, walkers, skaters, handcycles, and wheelchairs. The Half Marathon course is limited to 4,500 participants. The 5K is limited to 1,000 participants.

We are welcoming skaters back for 2012. Bring out your inline skates, rollerblades or rollerskates and speed your way down the strand.Helmets are mandatory. Knee and wrist guards are recommended.

5:00-6:30 A.M.	Half Marathon bus shuttle from Silver Strand State Beach to the Start (Bus Shuttle Option 1-Half Marathon Participants ONLY) Limited to the first 1000 athletes. Parking must be pre-paid with registration
5:45 A.M.	Half Marathon bus shuttle from Imperial Beach Pier Plaza to the start (first 200 half marathon participants)
6-7:15 A.M.	GEAR CHECK at Sunset Park, Coronado for Half Marathon Only
7:00 A.M.	START: 5K Start at the Imperial Beach Pier Plaza
7:00 A.M.	Athletes assemble at Half Marathon Start- Sunset Park, Coronado
7:15 A.M.	START: Half Marathon - Skate

Aid Stations:

There will be 6 aid stations on the half marathon race course. The water stations are located approximately 1.5 miles apart. Water will be available at all 6 stations and Ultima Replenisher energy drink will be available at 4 of the water stations. Energy gels will be available at one station near mile 7. Water is also available at both the start and finish areas.

Expo & Bib Pick-Up Information

We will have two packet pick-up times:

Friday, November 9th 3:00pm-7:00pm
Saturday, November 10th 10:00am-3:00pm

Friday Packet Pick-up will be only bib and t-shirt pick-up, while the Saturday Packet Pick-Up will have the Half Marathon Expo and packet pick-up. Both the bib number pick-up and Saturday expo will be located at Road Runner Sports.

5k participants are welcome to attend the expo to pick up their bibs. It is not mandatory for 5k participants to attend the expo. If you are a 5K participant and you choose not to attend the expo, your bib will be available for you at the 5K start on race morning beginning 6:00am.

All half marathon participants must attend the expo and pick up their own race materials. Participants will need to sign the waiver, pick up their T-shirt and their goodie bag. We do not allow friends or family members to pick up for athletes. ID's are mandatory at the expo.

If you are unable to attend the expo please select the Mail Bib Number option for $15. (deadline for the mail bib option is October 20, 2012) Your T-shirt will not be mailed out to you. It will be available for pick-up at the finish line after the race.

There will be a $10 late packet pick up fee for race day pick up!

Mail Back Option

Coming in from out of town or can’t make it to check in on Saturday? For a fee of $15 - Receive your race materials, EXCEPT FOR YOUR TIMING CHIP AND T-SHIRT, in the mail at least 5 days prior to the race. You DO NOT need to attend the pre-race check-in. Your timing chip will be available for you at the VIP booth on race morning. You will need to return a signed waiver by mail and pick up your T-shirt at the finish line. Entries must be received by October 20, 2012. NO EXCEPTIONS!
